Horsing Around on Ocean Beach

After finding out my lovely work colleague Gaylene was as horse mad as myself, it wasn’t long before we were off on our first outing to Ocean Beach with her boys Socks and Harley.

The ride was comfortable and relaxed, until Socks suddenly decided he fancied a nice roll in the sand and before I could even bat an eyelid, we were both down on the ground. Luckily, he changed his mind pretty quickly and after I hastily untangled myself from the stirrups and hopped off, he was back on his feet and looking smug. Gaylene was in fits of laughter as I stood there, sandy and bewildered for a few moments, before jumping back on and casually continuing the walk.

As the sea began to creep closer up the beach, we turned around and headed back to the car park, enjoying a few bursts of canter along the way.

We then untacked and treated the sweaty beasts to a nice sandy roll – minus their riders this time.

Harley jumped at the chance and made sure he got himself and Gaylene as sandy as possible.

Socks was a little more dismissive of the idea. I suppose he had already satisfied his rolling needs on the beach earlier, so a quick one would do.

My horse fix has been temporarily fulfilled for now, but it won’t be long before I’m bugging Gaylene for another day out..
